Sample Data

From over 30,000 public network cameras, our research team developed a database of static pictures and videos in order to perform visual analysis of the quality of social distancing in various parts of the world, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Below is a sample of the camera data that show a 31-day-timelapse from 4/1/2020 to 5/1/2020 of the effect of social distancing in various cities. To access the camera database, click here.

Observing Responses to the COVID-19 Pandemic using Worldwide Network Cameras

The pandemic has profoundly changed the world. Traditional methods for observing these historical events are difficult because sending reporters to areas with many infected people can put the reporters' lives in danger. New technologies are needed for safely observing responses to these policies. This paper reports using thousands of network cameras deployed worldwide for the purpose of witnessing activities in response to the policies.
